Magical Art Therapy is an ongoing collection of sigils–or magical images–that use a symbolic visual language inspired by nature, mythology, and occult practices like alchemy and the tarot to address topics related to mental illness, trauma, and surviving in an unkind world.

The Magical Art Therapy series has been inspired by my personal experiences as a mentally ill trauma survivor, and I have been beyond humbled at the response from other people that have faced similar difficulties in their lives and found comfort and understanding in my work.

Magical Art Therapy is probably the most popular, recognizable, requested-as-merchandise artwork I’ve done; thus Magical Art Therapy sigils have been turned by me into items from enamel pins to zines.

Magical Persuasion Brew

I have been working on a particular concoction that will enable the user to maintain a position of influence over others. This works well in any situation where you may require the “upper hand” before going into a negotiation or engaging in some other business transaction. My partner and I are in the process of planning our wedding and I plan on using this brew before meeting the vendors, photographers, caterers, entertainment, florists, and so on to persuade them to give us the best deal possible. When you’re planning a wedding with 200 guests, the costs add up extremely fast – ever little bit helps!

To Create the Persuasion Brew

1.     Bring one cup of water to a rolling boil. Ideally, the water would have been collected during a thunderstorm, but in a pinch tap water will suffice.

2.     Contribute a handful of fresh sage leaves, for wisdom.

3.     Grind a small piece of dragon’s blood (power) to a fine powder in a brass mortar and contribute to the brew.

4.     Stir with a cinnamon stick (power, success) for the space of thirteen heartbeats then contribute it to the brew.

5.     Reduce the heat and bring the brew to a gentle simmer.

6.     Contribute Devil’s Shoestring (power, business).

7.     Contribute a small piece of snake skin (power).

8.     Grind a small piece of ginger root (power) to a fine paste in a mortar and contribute.

9.     Add one sprig of fresh rosemary (mental powers)

10.  Add three drops wintergreen oil.

11.  Add one drop of vanilla extract.

12.  Return to a boil and stir with a wooden spoon.

13.  When all ingredients are combined as one, the brew may be removed from the fire and poured off through a fine sieve into a small, dark glass vial.

14.  Before going into a meeting, pour a few drops of the brew into the palms of your hands and rub them together. When you shake the hand of the one you’re about to meet, the power of this persuasive brew will take effect and they will succumb to your dominance.

Mama Cat’s Beginner Witch Garden

If you are a baby witch who wants to garden but doesn’t exactly know how to start, this is the post for you. Keep in mind that with flowering plants, there will tend to be bees. Bees are your friends unless you allergic to them because they help pollinate and support the ecosystem that humans need to survive.

A quick google search will show you how to plant and care for each of these plants. To the side are the magic purposes that Mama Cat uses them for, if you would like to use them for different kinds of magic, that is totally fine and up to you. 

If you are interested in flowers, here are some plants that are easy to grow and tend to take care of themselves. They are also great for attracting bees.

Sunflowers- good for money and confidence magic

Sweet Peas- good for love, friendship, and calming magic

Nigellas- good for protection magic

Aquilegia- good for glamours and abundance magic

Californian Poppy- good for sleep magic

Nasturtium- good for star/divination magic

Pansy- good for illusion magic

To make rosewater you need the following: 


Fresh roses, petals, buds, hips, and leaves.

3 parts vodka, gin, or witch hazel extract.

1 part distilled water.

A glass jar with lid.

Mix all of the items together and let sit for at least one week. Use in spells, as offerings, as a facial toner, as perfume, as a hair cleaner, or whatever else strikes your fancy.

From infusions and tinctures to oils and salves: The basics of herbal healing and the beginnings of any potion.

Decoction:
A decoction is needed to extract the deeper essence from harder substances such as barks, roots and stems. Place the raw materials in a pot and fill it with fresh water. Simmer uncovered until the water lever is reduced by 1/3. Strain the resulting liquid to remove particulates then drink or use as needed.

Infusion:
Pour freshly boiled water over the desired herb or planar matter, roughly 8 ounces of water per teaspoon of dried plant parts. When using fresh herbs roughly 3 times as much is required.

Oil:
Place flowers, herbs or other plant parts in a sealed glass container. Fill the container with an organic oil (ex: Olive, sesame, etc…) until it is an inch above the material being used. Place the bottle somewhere warm for 2 weeks, next to a stove while cooking, on the mantle, a sunny window sill, etc. Upend the container daily to ensure the oil saturates the material.

Ointment:
Heat 2 cups of pure lard to frying temperature. Add 4 handfuls of crumbled dry herbs or 6 handfuls of chopped fresh herb to the lard. Stir to to blend and let simmer for 1 minute. Remove from heat, cover and let sit over night. Reheat until liquid then mix in 4 tablespoons of an organic oil, this will prevent it hardening to much. Squeeze through a cheese clothe to remove solids and store in a crockery or glass container.

Salve:
Mix 3 ounces of finely pulped plant parts, 7 ounces of lard and 1 ounce of beeswax. When thoroughly mixed simmer over low heat in active red pot for 1-2 hours. Remove from eat and allow to cool.

Tincture:
A tincture uses alcohol to extract the properties of a herb or plant. Loosely fill a glass container with fresh or dried herbs and add some sort of food grade spirit (ex: vodka), vinegar can also be used for certain ingredients. Cork or otherwise seal the container and leave somewhere warm for 2 or more weeks.

•Mix together Salt and Pepper and sprinkle to prevent trespassing
•Add coffee to a bath to break a curse
•Place sachets of dried rosemary around the home for protection
•Sprinkle around garlic powder to keep evil at bay
•Add lime to your water for protection
•Carry a clove with you for courage
•Mint attracts business - try hanging a sprig above the door to your private workspace
•Place a sprig of thyme under your pillow to bring about prophetic dreams
•Hang a braid of garlic in a sickroom to trap the negative energies
•Put a vial of rosemary water in a sickroom to promote healing
•Stash an onion beneath a sickbed to soak up wandering negative and harmful energies
•Seaweed can be used to ward off evil spirits
•Scatter dried or fresh chilli peppers to break a curse
•Throwing rice into the air promotes rain
•Lilacs rid unwanted spirits
•Black Obsidian is great for scrying
•Stitch sigils into clothes, blankets, etc
•Too Cold outside to storm call? Storm calling / weather magick will work just fine when facing your window and looking out
•When showering, imagine all the impurities and negativity being washed off you by the water, and down into the drain
•The Fae enjoy sweets as offerings the most
•Wear your pendulum as a necklace when on the go
•Use amethyst crystals to recharge your energies. Left Hand - Out with the old. Right hand - In with the New.
•Soups and stews not only are great for healing the body, but they have many magickal properties too!
•Himalayan pink salt can get seriously expensive. Unless you plan on eating it, buy Himalayan Pink Bath Salts. They’re so much cheaper and you can buy them in even larger bags.
•Use coffee filters and elastic bands to make the perfect bath bags
•Use sea salt when sweeping the floor to soak up the negative energies and cleanse your home
•Store your Black Salt in a dark glass jar, away from sunlight.
